Abnormal radial artery in Down syndrome: a rare but clinically important association.

چکیده
We report a 3-year-old boy with DS in whom radial artery pulsations were incidentally detected to be bilaterally absent. Bilateral ulnar artery and all other peripheral pulsations were normal. His blood pressure in right upper arm was normal, 96/66 mm Hg. Twodimensional echocardiography was normal. Doppler ultrasonography of the arterial trunks of the upper limbs suggested normal ulnar artery waveforms up to the wrist joints and absent radial artery waveforms. Aortogram and bilateral upper limb angiography were performed. This revealed a vestigial right radial artery (absent except in proximal 3 cm) and a hypoplastic left radial artery [Figure 1]. The aortogram was normal and it did not reveal any associated arterial or venous malformations.

Paper: A Case Report of a Rare Variation in Arising Branches of Brachial Artery
Variations in the arterial pattern of the upper limb are abundant and diverse and have been observed frequently either in cadaver dissection or in clinical practice and reports. In the most of these reports, radial or ulnar arteries were commonly involved, which can be damaged during surgical procedures. This report presents a case of a rare variation in arising branches of brachial artery. Dur...
متن کاملAberrant Radial Artery Causing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Anatomical vascular variations are rare causes of carpal tunnel syndrome. An aberrant medial artery is the most common vascular variation, while an aberrant radial artery causing carpal tunnel syndrome is even more rare, with an incidence ranging less than 3%. This article reports a patient with compression of the median nerve at the carpal tunnel by an aberrant superficial branch of the radi...
متن کاملRare Multiple Variations in the Radial Anrtery of an Iranian Cadaver
Radial artery is a muscular artery that normally aroses from brachial artery in the elbow. The radial artery is increasingly being used as a coronary bypass graft. The aim of this paper is to report details of rare multiple variations in the radial artery of a male Iranian cadaver. In routine dissection, it was observed that the right side radial artery arose from brachial artery in the arm. It ...
متن کاملClinically relevant variations in the origin and course of the radial artery
Background: The radial artery is an essential artery supplying the structures in the forearm. Variations in the radial artery concerning its origin, course, branching pattern, and mode of termination have been commonly reported. The high origin of the radial artery from either brachial or axillary artery was detected in numerous studies. Clinically-radial artery is used in cardiac catheterizati...
متن کاملPrepubertal Diagnosis of Klinefelter Syndrome: A Rare Case Report
Klinefelter syndrome is characterised by advancing testicular function deterioration causing aspermatogenesis and androgen deficiency. Klinefelter patients characteristically have complete male sex differentiation, and genital anomalies are infrequently associated. Penoscrotal malformations at birth are very rare in this syndrome. Nonetheless, it is important to know the association, as one of...
